  • Service type: Family Training (educational skill-building; not therapy)

Focus: life skills, social skills, Healthy Emotional Expression, boundaries, daily routines, basic literacy, job readiness
Participants: individual + caregiver/staff (as appropriate)
Setting: in-home, day centers, group homes, and community locations
Deliverables: training plan, session notes, progress summaries, and unit usage updates

Eligibility & Scope

  • Appropriate when: the client needs structured, teachable routines/skills; caregiver coaching will help carry skills across settings. (Emotional and social needs can be worked on, but not in the same way a therapist would)


    • Not a fit for: Medical/Clinical therapy needs; crisis-only requests without a training goal. We can collaborate with clinical teams when both are involved.

Referral → Start of Services 


  • 1. Service Request: Send information to DDSrefferal@okdisabilityservices.com


  • 2. Initial Service Request: ODS will request units needed for Initial Assessment & Family Training Plan (FTP) Development.


  • 3. Assessment: Determine client needs and desires for learning, as well as Caregiver(s) desires for client.


  • 4. Training Services: ODS FTP developed and sent to Case Manager with our Full Training Services Justification (FTSJ) & Unit Request.


  • 5. Submission: Case manager submits FTSJ & Unit Request for the clients Family Training.


  • 6. Approval: ODS begins Family Training sessions with client on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.


  • 7. Progress: Quarterly reports, as well as notes detailing content covered and level of understanding provided on our website where Case Managers are provided access.
